Post 8. Looking for America: Minnesota in a Garrison Keillor state of mind
Minnesota—known to this family primarily through the 42-year long running radio show, “A Prairie Home Companion” hosted by the beloved Garrison Keillor (who sadly fell victim to our country’s current cancel culture). In the gorgeous, mostly Lutheran farm country we could imagine the communities “where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking and all the children are above the average.”
Minneapolis, near the mouth of the Mississippi River, was full of interesting architecture and just next door, the twin city of St Paul revealed the magnificent state capitol high on a hill. A last important stop was the memorial site where George Floyd was murdered. We felt the agony that George Floyd—and many others who have been unjustly killed—must have felt.

Susan and Eloise enjoyed traveling in the footsteps of Laura Ingalls Wilder and her family in Minnesota. We saw the dugout where her family lived On the Banks of Plum Creek, and visited Walnut Grove--The Little House on the Prairie--which remains a very small town. The Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum had lots of memorabilia owned by the Ingalls.
